Training, events and support into employment
There are a variety of events and training courses available to residents. These courses are free to those who meet the eligibility criteria. We also offer four employment and training grants for SNG residents which give access to training, skills and employment opportunities.
Events
MITSkills are offering an 8-week, Skills Bootcamp in construction for unemployed adults who want to start a career in construction. This course has been designed with leading businesses and employers who have identified a series of sought-after qualifications for someone beginning a career in the construction industry.
In addition to gaining industry qualifications, you will complete a 2-week placement and interview with a construction employer. This will be your opportunity to learn what is expected of a new entrant into the construction industry; understand the different roles and requirements; develop basic construction skills; impress a potential employer and gain full-time employment.

The West London Jobs Fair event will take place on Friday 24 May from 10am to 1pm. It will involve:
- Networking opportunities with recruiters, hiring managers, and representatives from various companies. Building connections can open doors to job opportunities now or in the future.
- Direct interaction with employers. You can ask questions, learn about company cultures, and get a better understanding of job roles and requirements.
- A chance to explore job/career options featuring a diverse range of companies from different industries. This gives you the chance to explore various career paths and industries you might not have considered otherwise.
- Face-to-face impressions so you can make a memorable impression beyond what a CV or online application can convey. Your personality, communication skills, and enthusiasm can shine in person.
- Access to hidden opportunities - Not all job openings are advertised online. Companies often attend job fairs to fill positions quickly or to find candidates with specific skills. Attending a job fair gives you access to these hidden opportunities.
- An opportunity to learn about the job market - Job fairs provide insights into the current job market trends, including in-demand skills, salary ranges, and hiring expectations. This information can help you tailor your job search strategy.
- Professional development - get tips on how to improve your CV, interview skills, and build your confidence talking to employers

A new sector-based Work Academy Programme aimed at unemployed West London women which will launch in June 2024. The London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have teamed-up with Women into Construction and West London College to run the programme which will provide work placements, guaranteed job interviews along with a CSCS (construction skills certification scheme) card. Women recruited on to the programme will also be offered a menu of environmentally friendly construction opportunities plus a health and safety and employability qualification.

Mace are a contractor working on various construction projects in and around London. They are hosting a jobs fair on Tuesday 18 June 2024 alongside the Construction Industry Training Board and 18 of their supply chain partners.
This event, which will be held at a London venue near Fleet Street, also features workshops on speed mentoring, employability skills, green skills and Mace’s Early career programmes (apprenticeships & graduates).

The Wates Community Learning Hub
Are you looking to learn new personal or professional skills or develop existing ones? Network residents aged 19 and over now have access to over 50 nationally accredited courses through an online portal run by our repairs contractor Wates.
The Wates Community Learning Hub has courses ranging from mental health, wellbeing and social care to business and digital skills.

You can also sample a course before you sign up to ensure it’s the right course for you.
You get access to expert tutors and gain an accredited qualification with courses lasting from two to six weeks. You can start the courses at any time, and they’re split into manageable modules. There are no exams and knowledge is tested against assignment-based questions giving time for you to think of answers.
Courses must be taken one at a time, but you can sign up to five over one year if you wish.
Most of these courses are online and can be done from your home, but you can do some through paper booklets if you’re not able to access the internet. You will need to sign up online but after this learning can be done offline if you wish.

The London Construction Academy provides training and skills for the exacting demands of working in the construction sector.
It has been established to help people in the community, not in education, employment or training (NEETS) to develop the knowledge and skill they need to enter the construction sector.
Candidates must:
- Live in a London Borough
- Not be in Education, Training or Employment
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK
- Pass a drugs and alcohol test
- Able to attend all 15 days of the course
- Want to use course skills learnt to apply for apprenticeship or manual work
- Good literacy skills (Level 1 minimum)
Courses include:
- Health & Safety
- Traffic Marshall Training
- Customer Service
- Manual Handling
- First Aid
- Equality and Diversity
- Environmental Awareness
- CSCS Revision and Test
- Job Interview Preparation
- London Bronze Pass (for attending all modules)
All course fees are fully funded with £90 contribution towards travel expenses.
